The Khargar Valley Golf Course, located in Navi Mumbai, is set to become one of India’s premier championship golf courses, blending strategic design with natural landscapes. Developed by GDI, this 18-hole Par 72 course features some of the country’s most unique golfing challenges, including India’s longest golf hole and a signature island green. The project, awarded through an open tender by CIDCO, saw multiple international and Indian golf architects compete, with GDI securing the design. This case study explores golf course construction challenges, site hydrology, sustainable design integration, and innovative playability elements that make Kharghar Valley a landmark in Indian golf course design.
The Khargar Valley Golf Course, commissioned by CIDCO (City Industrial Development Corporation, Maharashtra), is designed as a championship-level 18-hole course. Surrounded by hills, water bodies, and strategic landforms, this course presents a challenging yet engaging layout for golfers of all skill levels. The golf architectural design architect strategy included careful land assessment, hydrology study, and sustainability measures to ensure long-term playability and ecological balance.
The Khargar Golf Course project aimed to establish a world-class golfing facility in Navi Mumbai, complementing the city’s urban expansion.
Multiple top golf architects, including renowned international firms, submitted their design proposals, but GDI’s strategic approach, sustainability model, and unique design vision led to their securing the project contract.
By integrating cutting-edge course construction methodologies, GDI overcame these challenges to develop a golf course that balances playability, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability.
The Khargar site has significant water runoffs during monsoons, making hydrology management a key design consideration. GDI employed advanced water retention strategies, ensuring that original water channels and bodies remained undisturbed, enhancing natural aesthetics and course sustainability.
By emphasizing risk-reward dynamics, the course allows players to approach each hole strategically, making it engaging for professionals and amateurs alike.
The Khargar Golf Course features two signature highlights:
