  • Do : Dress to impress : Don’t just walk to a golf field wearing casuals like jeans and t-shirts. It’s not even an attire for any sport, let alone golf. Playing this sport is about dressing up like a gentleman which means wearing a collared shirt, golf pants or shorts, golf shoes and a hat.
  • Dont : Avoid being tardy : Timeliness is highly valued in golf etiquette. Arriving late to tee time can interfere in the order of play and disrupt other golfers. So even if you are running late, you must contact the golf course staff or playing partner to notify them. It’s recommended to arrive at the golf course, one hour before the tee time.
  • Do : Be a good sport : There’s nothing worse than playing with someone who spends their entire round with a negative attitude. So don’t be the guy with a terrible golf etiquette! There’s nothing wrong with displaying frustration, but do so to yourself and do not throw clubs or swear loudly.
  • Dont : Make noise while someone is hitting : When a golfer is above the ball or about to swing, proper golf etiquette is to remain still and silent. Which means no talking, coughing, sifting through the golf bag or any other motion which could make a distracting noise.
  • Do : Know the order of play : Whoever carded the lowest score on the previous hole generally tees of first on the next hole. So wait for your turn to hit. Whosoever is ready to hit first  can go first, regardless of scores on the previous hole.
  • Dont : Slow down the pace of play : This brings us to the next important component of golf etiquette which is playing at a reasonable pace. It’s important to keep up with the group in front of you and be mindful of slow play. Excessive practice swings and searching too long for a lost ball are a couple of things which can slow down the pace.
  • Do : Care for the course : 1 of the most important factors to keep in mind is that golf isn’t just a playing 1 person’s playground but a field meant for all players wanting to play this beautiful sport.
